HISTORY
In May 2004, Executive Director Richard Northcutt, with the support of Jean, Jim, and Elizabeth Keathley, saw a dream realized when As You Like It was produced at the Cannon County Carriage Driving Center in Woodbury, TN. With this, the Valhalla Shakespeare Project was born.
Located on the Keathley’s pastoral Valhalla Farm, the Shakespeare Project has grown exponentially from its initial audience of 150 faithful fans. The over five hundred patrons who made their way to attend the latest venture, the innovative Hamlet performed by eight brave actors, were enthusiastic in their response. This was in especial evidence at the Sunday show when the encroaching darkness forced the final scenes into the headlights of a Jeep Cherokee!* NOT FOUND *
A mere two years since its inception, the Valhalla Shakespeare Project is recasting itself as a company of professional theater artists and instructors. These few, these happy few are dedicated to engaging and educating the Southeastern rural community by hauling Shakespeare out of a textbook and into a modern world.
The Valhalla Shakespeare Project is funded in part by the Cannon County Carriage Driving Center, the James O. and Jean Adams Keathley Family Foundation, and the Tennessee Arts Commission. Admission and parking are free. Please provide your own seating and refreshments.
